A pressure plate is a car part also known as a clutch cover it is a car part of a manual car transmission clutch system.It is a heavy metal controlled by a spring and lever.
The main function of of the pressure plate is to apply pressure to the primary clutch plate(or clutch disc) holding against the cars flywheel.
The application of pressure allows energy to flow from engine crankshaft through the engaged clutch into the transmission gearbox system then through the driveshaft and to the wheels.
When the driver press down the clutch pedal the pressure plate stops applying pressure to the clutch disc which disengages and allow the driver to easily engage and change gears as he desires.
SIGNS SYMPTOMS OF A WORN OUT DAMAGED PRESSURE PLATE INCLUDE;
-Slipping clutch.
-Audible noise when clutch is released.
-Vibration in transmission.
-Difficulty in clutch engagement
It is recommended to regularly check for early signs of wear and tear of your vehicles clutch and pressure plate.Replacement should be done within an interval of 100000 kilometers and 150000 kilometers.
